Process:

For this Play type I wanted to explore what I could do with waste embroidery yarn and left over can tops I had from creating sequins. Initially when exploring ideas for this particular play type, I immediately thought of the fashion designer Paco Rabanne and the way he uses unusual techniques and materials that would always push the boundaries through eye-catching creations. With an education in architecture his approach to the way he thought about materials and techniques when creating clothing was a lot different to the norm. The bottle caps used in this play type reminded me of Rabanne’s material use of hard metal materials that were linked together using chains, rivets and wires seen in the examples below.

Because I was using waste materials for this Playtype I explored ways to combine the can tops using waste embroidery yarn.

Materials: Coca Cola, Sprite and solo soft drink can tops.

Began by tying two together can tops together, overlapping them so that they look connected properly.

I then continued this process and thread the yarn through the loop hole to secure it.

A tapestry needle helped control where the thread was going.

I continued the above steps until the space between each can was filled.

Soft drink lids were used in an under/ over technique so that they sat in the right groove.

MATERIALS:  Soft Drink Cans, Recycled faux leather, leftover sewing thread, hole puncher.

TECHNIQUES -Creating  sequins out of soft drink cans, securing sequins in order.

Following the completion of this play type I was really pleased with the outcome I had made. The play type itself is bendy and playful with pops of colour. I would like to some how incorporate this play type in my final artefact as I feel it will work cohesively with the hand cut sequins and flowers. It is amazing to see what you can do with waste embroidery yarn and can tops.
